Canon Background:

Yancy Beckett grew up in Anchorage, Alaska with little Raleigh, his dad, and his mom, living the average upper-middle class kid life: school, birthday parties, vacations in Europe and the like.

Then K-Day happened, and the world was beset by the first of many threats to humanity: the Kaiju, colossal alien beasts emerging from a dimension rift in the Marianas Trench to spread destruciton wherever they go.

His dad died in one of the attacks. His chain-smoking mother was diagnosed with lung cancer, and wasted away over a long series of chemo treatments. On her deathbed, she asked him to “To look after your brother. Protect him. But don't you goddamned smother him.”

Yancy promised he would do that. And he did his best to do just that.

So when Raleigh decided to drop out of school to enter the Jaeger Training Academy, Yancy didn't hesitate to follow him in.

Besides, punching Kaiju in the face with giant robot hands alongside your baby brother sounded damn cool.

Personality:

Yancy is that mature older brother type you can love and admire, and feel rather piqued towards at the same time.

He's determined to live up to the final promise he made to his mom. As enthusiastic as he is about piloting Jaegers and protecting the world, if his brother decided to quit and do something else, he'd follow him with little hesitation. Because brothers are always there for each other. He also tries to be the mature brother of the two, someone who makes wiser and more thoughtful decisions, and who his lil' bro can look up to. The Han Solo to his Luke Skywalker.

Pity he's not quite as mature as he intends to be. He parties wildly, hogs the attention in public situations, steals nice things from his bro without asking, and can be cheerfully oblivious to his brother's desires. A fair chunk of this hedonism is a subconscious salve for his internal frustration over always choosing to put his brother's welfare and goals first.

Yet even if it takes a punch in the face to make him realize that he's being a prat, he'll understand what that punch means, and try to become better. And he truly does love Raleigh, shades of codependency and all.

His character development will revolve around him learning to expand his life goals beyond that of 'stand by his brother': to have his own dreams and goals, and shape his own destiny.

Unfortunately, a cataclysmic event off the coast of Alask changes everything...

Capabilities and Resources:

Like a certain other older brother in a two-brother monsters hunting team, Yancy has little formal education beyond the basics, having dropped out to participate in the Jaeger program.

That's not to say that he's not smart, or even necessarily book-dumb. Yancy believes that keeping one's mind firmly honed is a vital part of controlling a PPDC Jaeger. Taking Stacker Pentecost's description of Jaeger piloting being like 'Boxing while solving a Rubix Cube' to heart, he occupies himself with brain training software, words and number puzzles, creative thinking video games, and Anglo-Saxon riddles. He even knows how to solve a Rubix Cube!

And when playing around with Jaegers, you can't help pick things up. He's well grounded in all the engineering that goes into a Jaeger, ranging from nuclear physics, to robotics, to neurology.

Still, his education is patchwork, and there are gaping holes in it here and there that embarrass him when it's brought up.

Yancy, as a Jaeger pilot, is a skilled martial artist, with a focus on boxing. He is also skilled in the ancient art of brotherly slap-fighting.

Unit Name: Gipsy Danger

Unit Description:

http://pacificrim.wikia.com/wiki/Gipsy_Danger

A Mark-III Jaeger standing at around 79 meters and powered by an Arc-9 Nuclear Vortex Reactor. Gipsy Danger is credited with four confirmed Kaiju kills. As with all Jaegers, they are best suited to terrestrial warfare as the Kaiju have ever only appeared attacking from the sea. Gipsy is capable of rapid movement on solid ground when utilizing its rear thrusters and has solid mobility and fluid motion for its size class thanks to its stabilizers - even being able to affect massive leaps.

As its control pod is in its head AND is detachable, the massive armor flaps close to its shoulders are present in order to protect the back and of its neck lest the con-pod is torn free by aggressors. Additionally, when submerged - partially or completely, it is able to utilize sea water to assist with system cooling - thus allowing the systems to be pushed harder.

In terms of combat ability, Gipsy is armed with an I-19 Plasma Caster - the weapon functions by sending plasma through a supercharged carrier rail, because of the nature of the weapon's projectile, any wounds caused against biological opponents like the Kaiju will be cauterized instantly after impact - possibly preventing the spread of any toxic substances within the target's body. Additional weapons include a set of elbow rockets that increase the impact force of physical blows dealt by the Jaeger.

The Nuclear Turbine can also be utilized as a directed heat weapon - albeit purely at close range for maximum effectiveness. The coolant the Jaeger utilizes can also be used as an offensive weapon and is capable of rendering a kaiju's limbs brittle enough to shatter like ice. It goes without saying that it could possibly affect more than just rampaging monsters in such a way.

Admittedly unlike the Mark 4s and 5s, Gipsy has a problem in regards to its parts - in which they move far more than the recent models. This along with its looser suspension means that close quarters combat can become exceptionally risky.

Size: XL
Terrain compatibility:
Air: No
Ground: Yes
Water: Yes

Favored terrain: Land

Job: A PPDC Ranger, one of the pilots with the stamina, mental accuity, and grit to pilot a Jaeger using motion capture and neural bridge technology.

Suggested Event List:

Mission 01: Anchorage
Gipsy Danger along with support from the Unity Group are deployed to the Gulf of Alaska to intercept the Kaiju designated 'Knifehead'. However there is a problem in which there is a civilian boat between the Kaiju and everyone else. Marshall Pentecost orders everyone to leave it. Of course given how things go, its an order that gets disobeyed.

The mission goes as with canon, only with additional assistance.

After killing Knifehead, Gipsy goes MIA. Possibly in the chaos of the events from the accompanying canon.
